Based in Brooklyn, NY, Coil + Drift is the design studio of John Sorensen-Jolink, an acclaimed modern-dancer-turned-designer who founded his self-taught design practice in 2014.
The studio creates luxurious American-made contemporary furniture, lighting, and accessories that emphasize creative form, sustainability and effortless functionality. Their collection is designed using the unique spacial awareness of a dancer and choreographer to create hand-crafted items that give energy to a space in a new and refreshing way.
Coil + Drift presented their first full collection at BKLYN DESIGNS in May 2014 followed by their second at the 2015 Architectural Digest Home Design Show. In May, 2016, C+D made their debut at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City where they received the prestigious ICFF Editors' Award for Best New Designer and were named one of five Honorees for the inaugural NYCxDESIGN Award for Emerging Talent.
Their work has been featured in ELLE Decor, Food and Wine, Dwell, New York Magazine, Apartment Therapy, Design Sponge, Lonny Magazine, Vogue, and Refinery 29 among other publications. In May 2016, their Dusk Coffee Table was featured as one of the ‘Top Ten Cocktail Tables’ in ELLE Decor USA.
